How it works

Three taps a day — and a few clever things under the hood.

  1. Photograph or say it. A photo of the plate, a voice message or a few words: “a sandwich with butter and coffee with milk”. You can also just send a photo to the Telegram bot. Packaged food has a barcode, restaurants have a menu photo.
  2. Hroomy figures it out. It recognizes the dish, the ingredients and the portion, then counts calories, protein, fat, carbs, fiber and micronutrients (iron, calcium, vitamins D, B12 and C, omega-3, magnesium, zinc).
  3. Get simple advice. Not “+30 g protein” but “add 2 eggs or 100 g cottage cheese”. The advice takes into account your allergies, eating style, what you have at home, cooking time and budget.

Where the numbers come from

AI (the Claude model from Anthropic) recognizes the dish and its ingredients, but numbers come from food databases: USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts. This is more accurate than asking AI to “guess the calories”.

Any entry can be corrected quickly: the portion, the ingredients or the numbers themselves. Hroomy can remember your correction and apply it on its own next time.

How advice is made

The “right now” advice is calculated by a deterministic algorithm (no AI, so it is free and instant):

  1. We look at what is missing today — but only when the data is reliable enough. If most entries are rough estimates we do not announce “deficits” but recommend variety.
  2. We filter out everything that does not suit you: allergies, eating style, “I don’t eat”.
  3. We try simple food combinations and pick the best one: what covers the need, what you already have at home, inexpensive, quick, new today, not eaten just now.
  4. We show one option and the “Another option” button shows the next. You can answer “Did it help?” and Hroomy will stop suggesting what does not suit you.

A week without guilt

Once a few days have accumulated, “Your week” shows your eating rhythm: averages over complete days, what repeats, one small change. A day counts as complete when you marked it “That’s everything I ate today” — so a skipped lunch does not become “normal”.
